At the same time, I felt safe enough to include an imaginary component. My father lived and traveled through Africa for about 10-15 years. He read his diaries, how he traveled on cargo ships, how he knew all kinds of people... For me, it was the fantasy of reaching Africa through the words of another person. Bal d'Afrique reflects that; it is an imaginary journey, as well as a complete celebration of how I see African culture and its influence."
