Aliénor Massenet

Aliénor Massenet is a perfumer of Hungarian origin who grew up in a family of artists and scientists, an environment that naturally led her towards fragrance as a meeting point between imagination and experiment. At eighteen she trained in olfaction and raw materials with Monique Schlienger at Cinquième Sens while studying Art History, then continued her apprenticeship at Firmenich before joining IFF in New York in 1995.

After nearly two decades at IFF in New York and Paris, she moved to Symrise in 2016, where she is now VP Senior Perfumer and regarded as one of the defining creators of her generation. Her fragrances are built on contrasts and surprising alliances, often “signed” with labdanum or myrrh—ingredients she associates with a spiritual, almost mystical dimension.

Highly technical yet deeply intuitive, Massenet crafts sunlit, textural and emotionally resonant scents for niche houses and international luxury brands. A three-time Fragrance Foundation award-winner, she describes herself as independent and slightly rebellious, passionate about captive molecules, new technologies and perfumes designed to move the wearer as much as they seduce.
