Carmita Magalhães

Carmita Magalhães is a Senior Perfumer at dsm-firmenich and one of the most distinctive creative voices connecting European roots with Brazilian soul in modern perfumery. Born in France to Portuguese parents, she has lived in Brazil since 1999 and proudly describes herself as “French-Portuguese-Brazilianised”.

She grew up near a large forest and is still deeply moved by the smell of trees. As a child, she loved walking, cycling and spending time in the garden with her father, a passionate gardener who taught her to recognise aromatic plants such as rosemary, sage and mint. These vivid childhood memories of nature sparked her love of fragrance and ultimately led her to become a perfumer.

After studying chemistry in France and completing five years of perfumery training, she was offered a position in Brazil with Firmenich, now part of dsm-firmenich. The country quickly captivated her: its beaches, wide open spaces, lush landscapes and year-round abundance of fruit and flowers, all bathed in spectacular light. Today she creates fragrances built around three key words that define her style: freshness, comfort and sensuality.

For Carmita, “nature is the greatest perfumer of all”. She finds inspiration in the scent of mint by the streams, dry straw in the Brazilian pampa, olive wood and basil in the rain. In her work, this sensory world becomes luminous, generous compositions that feel like open air, relaxed skin and endless horizons — each fragrance conceived as a journey and an invitation to be part of that vast, diverse landscape she loves.
