Christine Nagel

Christine Nagel is a Swiss perfumer born in Geneva in 1959, to an Italian mother and Swiss father. She first studied medicine before turning to organic chemistry at the University of Geneva, where work in the lab led her to discover perfumery as her true calling.

She began her career at Firmenich in research and chromatography, deconstructing fragrances at a molecular level and training her nose to identify ingredients purely by smell. She later became a perfumer under the mentorship of Michel Almairac and went on to work with Créations Aromatiques, Quest, Givaudan, Fragrance Resources and Mane, where she also held a creative director role.

Nagel joined Hermès in 2014 and has been its in-house perfumer and Director of Olfactive Creation since 2016, standing as one of the most influential figures in contemporary perfumery. Her style fuses scientific rigour with emotion and a synesthetic, almost painterly vision of scent, translating colours, textures and feelings into sophisticated, deeply personal compositions
