Clément Gavarry

Clément Gavarry is a French perfumer born in Paris in 1977 and the fourth generation of a family rooted in the Grasse fragrance world: a great-grandfather who grew and distilled lavender, a grandfather who tended raw-material gardens and a father who became a renowned perfumer. His childhood was shaped by the smells of land and sea, from balsamic firs and immortelle to sun-drenched fields and coastal air.

At eighteen he began interning at IFF, then went on to study at ISIPCA in Versailles, earning a master’s degree and a diploma in organic chemistry before completing his training at the company’s internal perfumery school. New York has been his home since his early twenties—a city he describes as “one big experiment”—and the place where he built much of his international fine-fragrance career.

In 2024 he joined dsm-firmenich as a Principal Perfumer in the fine fragrance division. A self-confessed perfectionist, Gavarry likes to “live with” his formulas, giving them time to evolve until he finds the perfect balance. His signature brings together a strong, nature-driven sensibility with meticulous structure, resulting in modern, emotionally engaging perfumes that feel effortlessly wearable.
