Delphine Jelk is a Swiss perfumer born in 1977 in Fribourg, whose childhood passion for both science and art led her to dream of becoming an alchemist. After finishing school she turned to fashion design and studied at ESMOD in Paris; for her final project she created a multi-sensory collection in which every outfit was paired with a fragrance, marking her transition from fabrics to formulae.
Before fully embracing creation, she worked in fragrance marketing and trained at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, gaining a 360-degree view of the industry. She then composed for an international fragrance house, and in 2014 joined Guerlain, where she now serves as one of the house perfumers, working alongside Thierry Wasser to bridge heritage and modernity and signing key lines such as L’Art & La Matière and Aqua Allegoria. In 2021 she was named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in recognition of her contribution to French olfactory culture.
Her signature lies in round, warm, inviting compositions built on contrast and tension, often centred on iris, musks and powdery facets, with vanilla, almond and milky notes among her favourite materials. For Jelk, perfume should “do good” to the wearer—bringing comfort, pleasure and beauty—while reimagining Guerlain’s historic style through a modern, emotionally charged and deeply hedonistic lens.
