Jacques Guerlain (1874–1963) was a French master perfumer and the third generation of the Guerlain family to lead the house’s fragrance creation. Born in Colombes and trained in Paris, he entered the family business under his uncle Aimé’s guidance and soon became one of the most influential perfumers of the 20th century.
He authored some of the most iconic fragrances ever made, including L’Heure Bleue (1912), Mitsouko (1919), Shalimar (1925) and Vol de Nuit (1933), shaping what is now known as the “Guerlain signature”: enveloping, sensual, exquisitely refined compositions with masterful use of vanilla, resins and powdery facets. A discreet, publicity-shy creator, he preferred to let his perfumes speak for him, leaving behind one of the most admired bodies of work in modern perfumery.
