Jean-Christophe Hérault

Jean-Christophe Hérault is a French perfumer and Senior Perfumer at IFF, based in Paris. He grew up near Grasse, close to the fragrance industry through his father’s work in perfume concentrates, even if he initially stayed outside the family business.

His vocation emerged in his teenage years, when a bottle of fragrance gifted by his father revealed the emotional power of scent. He went on to study Chemistry at university and interned in a lab in Grasse, where he fell in love with raw materials and the inner workings of perfume creation.

During this time he met master perfumer Pierre Bourdon, whom he persuaded to become his mentor, shaping a precise, modern and highly sensorial olfactory style. Today he is regarded as one of the key figures in contemporary perfumery, composing for niche houses and major international brands.
