Jean Kerléo (1932–2025) was a French master perfumer born in Guiclan, Brittany, the son of farmers. He began his career in 1955 at Helena Rubinstein in New York, moving from lab assistant to perfumer and receiving the French Perfumers’ Prize in 1965 for his creative work.
In 1967 he joined Jean Patou as perfumer and technical director, becoming the house’s leading nose for more than three decades and composing fragrances such as 1000, Sublime, Ma Liberté, Eau de Patou and Voyageur. In 1990 he co-founded the Osmothèque in Versailles, the first international perfume conservatory, which he led until 2008, dedicating the later part of his career to preserving and reconstructing historic scents
