Mathilde Laurent is a French perfumer born into a family of artists and raised in Paris’s Montparnasse district, between railway tracks, studios and a richly textured urban landscape. She first studied Chemistry and Physics before enrolling at ISIPCA in Versailles, turning a lifelong habit of “encountering the world nose first” into a finely honed olfactory craft.
Her professional journey began at Guerlain, where she worked for over eleven years alongside Jean-Paul Guerlain and absorbed the heritage of classical French perfumery from the inside. In the mid-2000s she joined Cartier as in-house perfumer, overseeing the maison’s fine fragrance creations and bespoke projects, and steadily establishing herself as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary perfumery.
Laurent describes smell as “the king of the senses” and approaches fragrance as a total art form: she plays with both naturals and synthetics, designs conceptual collections and large-scale olfactory installations, and ultimately seeks to “light up people’s lives” through scent. Her signature blends intellectual rigour, urban poetry and fearless experimentation, constantly pushing the boundaries between luxury, innovation and emotion.
