Nelly Hachem-Ruiz

Nelly Hachem-Ruiz is a French perfumer of Syrian heritage, born and based in Paris. Her story begins with her grandmother and a cultured family who embodied the Parisian art de vivre, where books, flowers, recipes and daily rituals of scent quietly shaped her earliest olfactory memories.

An award-winning creator and now Senior Perfumer at IFF, she started out as a perfume analyst within the company before moving into fine-fragrance composition for international brands and niche houses. For Nelly, happiness and perfume are inseparable: fragrance is a way to fix fleeting sensory impressions, to hold on to powerful experiences and to summon the presence of loved ones even after they are gone.

Warm, spontaneous and generous, she lives surrounded by walls of photographs—faces and places she would love to bottle— and channels this visual, emotional richness into luminous, contemporary scents. Her work often bridges art and science, from niche collections to immersive installations that recreate clean air and far-away landscapes through smell.
