Sophia Grojsman

Sophia Grojsman is a Belarus-born American perfumer, widely regarded as one of the most influential creators in modern perfumery. Born in 1945, she studied analytical chemistry in Poland before immigrating to the United States in the mid-1960s, where she joined International Flavors & Fragrances in New York as a lab technician and was mentored by legendary perfumers Ernest Shiftan and Josephine Catapano.

She became famous for her groundbreaking style, reversing classic perfume proportions and building powerful, “hug-like” floral structures—often centred around rose—on soft, radiant bases. Over several decades she has created numerous best-selling fragrances and has been honoured with many of the industry’s top awards, including CEW Achiever distinctions, the American Society of Perfumers’ Living Legend Award and The Fragrance Foundation’s Perfumer of the Year – Lifetime Achievement Award.
