Patty Hidalgo

Patty Hidalgo (Patricia Hidalgo) is a Senior Perfumer and Vice President Perfumer at IFF, as well as a full member of the Spanish Academia del Perfume (Neroli Chair) and one of today’s most influential figures in fine fragrance. Based between New York and the industry’s main creative hubs, she has reached the top tier of perfumery after nearly three decades in the field, crafting scents for selective, specialty and lifestyle segments.

Born to a Cuban mother and a father from Santander, she grew up at the crossroads of two rich cultures, where family, food, music and celebration played a central role — a background she credits for the energy, warmth and optimism that run through her work. Trained in biology and chemistry, she started out as a lab technician until a temporary position in a fragrance laboratory made her realise that her true calling was to blend scientific knowledge with artistic intuition and “bottle joy” through scent.

Over the years, Patty has consistently defended the idea that perfumery has no boundaries and that its possibilities are endless. She sees her creations as a form of escapism, designed to make you feel the sun on your skin, the salty freshness of sea air or the comforting warmth of a cherished memory, using fragrance as a powerful trigger of emotion and recall.

Beyond fine fragrance, she has also been a pioneer in bridging the gap between prestige perfumery and flavours, working closely with flavourists and helping define the “fine flavors” category, where the aroma of a beloved dessert or ice cream is translated into highly evocative scents. Her personal credo can be summed up in three words she often highlights: simplicity, passion and determination — supported by deep technical expertise and a relentlessly creative spirit.
